16 He was buried in the City of David[a] with the kings, because he had accomplished good in Israel and for God and his temple.

17 After Jehoiada died, the officials of Judah visited the king and declared their loyalty to him.[b] The king listened to their advice.[c] 18 They abandoned the temple of the Lord God of their ancestors[d] and worshiped[e] the Asherah poles and idols. Because of this sinful activity, God was angry with Judah and Jerusalem.
